J. Douglas Merritt, CSSC
Doug is a Settlement Annuity Specialist in the San Francisco Bay Area office located in Walnut Creek. He began working in the structured settlements field in 2001.
Doug has a wide range of experience in cases involving medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, product liability, mass tort, and non-physical injury litigation. Furthermore, Doug has extensive knowledge in the Medicare reporting and Medicare Set-Aside issues that present many of his clients today.
He has worked with casualty companies, hospitals, the Department of Justice, third-party administrators and major self-insured organizations. Services include designing and negotiating structured settlement packages, reviewing and pricing life care plans, projecting future loss of earnings, evaluating Medicare Set-Aside Allocations and calculating present day value figures for settlement. He attends mediations and settlement conferences with clients and handles all of the functions necessary in finalizing settlement documents.
In October of 2007, the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA) in conjunction with the University of Notre Dame, conferred on J. Douglas Merritt the designation of Certified Structured Settlement Consultant (CSSC). He is also a licensed insurance agent in California and he is an active member of NSSTA.
Doug holds an honors diploma in Aviation Technology and Flight, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, and most recently graduated with a Masters degree in Business Administration with honors from Saint Mary's College of California.
